Labour Day weekend, Aug.31st-Sept. 3rd
Bumbershoot, Seattle Center Arts Pavilion
Curated by Marlow Harris & Jo David, they've invited over 75 artists (Many of my heroes/stars of the art world, including Ron English, Jim Blanchard, Scott Fife, Howard Finster, Andy Warhol & oh so many more) to pay tribute to 'the King', since it was over 50 years ago that Elvis performed at the Seattle World's Fair. Don't miss this!!!! Tickets are pricey, but they have a free preview day on FRIDAY, AUGUST 31st in conjunction with the Mayor's Arts Awards. Here's a link
CAL ANDERSON MURAL
ongoing (up for 2 years)
Denny and John, Capitol hill (Cal Anderson Park), Seattle
The 11 ft portrait I did of Cal Anderson, commissioned by SOUND TRANSIT, was unveiled on March 24th at the park in his name. (He was the 1st openly gay legislator, who did so much for his community so it was a lovely tie-in with the marriage rights bill just passed)
Pianos (Public Art)
Auburn, & Shoreline City Hall
2 different cities are putting multiple decorated pianos on the street (for the public to play). I've created one for Auburn and for Shoreline. They debut August 2nd & 3rd. For AUBURN I did 'Tickling the Ivy's', covering it in (painted & 3-D) ivy. Shoreline's is a trip down Musical Memory Lane, with hand-painted images of Seattle musicians and ephemera, from the BING CROSBY to HEART to SOUNDGARDEN. (ARTS AL FRESCO) at Shoreline City Hall, 17500 Midvale Avenue North.
Aug 6th-October 1st
Aljoya Mercer Island, 2420 76th Ave SE.
I'm co-curating (and will hang a single painting), a show at AlJoya. We teamed 14 talented artists with seniors living in this building, they then produced a VISUAL BIOGRAPHY of their assigned elder. Some incredibly interesting stories came out of it: Code Breakers, UBoat captains, Civil rights workers, Army nurses, WW II pilots, artists, their lives ran the gamut. The show will be up for 2 months, reception is THURSDAY, AUGUST 9th from 5:30-7:30
July - October 14th, 2012
University House (4400 Stone Way, in Wallingford), Seattle
I have a single piece, RAY-BANS, in the University House (4400 Stone Way, in Wallingford) show with the theme ADAPTATION, Visual art referencing art literature, music, theatre, or some other artform. The show - which is big, maybe 100 pieces?- is open every day from 9am to 7pm.
The brilliant Todd Jannausch is doing another portable art gallery, 'SMALL VOIDS' is a series of 100 mini galleries. Each “gallery” will contain an original piece of work by a different Seattle artist, to be installed on to existing light poles and street signs. They will cover a single city block for a series of one-night shows.
